The Social Development Department has expanded its parenting session series, and now offers sessions for the Spanish speaking community in the British Virgin Islands.

Community Development Officer, Ms. Barbara Smith said that although the department began its parenting session series earlier this year, part of the series is designed to reach different ethnic groups, including parents who speak foreign languages. The Spanish speaking community is one of the first groups identified.

Ms. Smith said, “This is an important step for the department as we work towards improving our services to better meet the needs of all persons regardless of ethnicity or language barriers.”

The first session will be held on Thursday, May 18 at the Purcell Community Centre from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.

Parenting sessions are geared towards giving parents the necessary tools to better care for their children as well as to promote healthier family lifestyles.

Persons attending the workshops will also have access to free child care services on site and refreshments.

For more information on the session and how to register, contact Ms. Barbara Smith at the Social Development Department at 468-3650.
