Parents and guardians are being urged to ensure that their children’s vaccination record is up to date, as the BVI Health Services Authority continues to advocate for strong immunisation programmes.

Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI) Manager, Ms. Marina Bedeau said Immunisations are important for adults and children because they are effective and can protect against infectious diseases such as measles, polio and whooping cough. She said keeping up to date on immunisation, offers peace of mind to parents and guardians.

“We know that the country is still in recovery mode, but we do not want parents to fall behind with their child or children’s vaccination schedule,” Ms. Bedeau said.

She reminded parents and guardians to review their child’s immunisation card to ensure that they are up to date with their shots. “We do not want parents to become complacent with regards to this matter because we want all our children to be healthy and more so free from diseases that can be prevented through vaccination,” she said.

Ms. Bedeau further added, “If your child is not immunised or up to date with their immunisation schedule, or if you are not sure what their immunisation status is, visit or telephone your nearest health centre and speak with a health professional.”

Persons can telephone the following clinics: Road Town at 852-7681 or 852-6566, Cane Garden Bay at 852-7770, Virgin Gorda at 345-2613 or 852-7730, Jost Van Dyke at 852-7795, East End at 440-1631 and Anegada at 346-9801 or 342-0615.
