MESSAGE BY PREMIER AND MINISTER OF FINANCE
DR. THE HONOURABLE D. ORLANDO SMITH, OBE ON THE
OBSERVANCE OF THE 20TH ANNUAL BVI NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER
THURSDAY, MAY 5, 2016

Fellow Virgin Islanders and Residents, today the Virgin Islands observes the 20th annual BVI National Day of Prayer under the theme “Wake Up Caribbean”.

I encourage all leaders, especially those in our Government, churches, businesses and the community to participate in this Territory-wide event.

We have always been a people of prayer. Our Virgin Islands is built on the prayers of devout Christian men and women who visited each community and stood in the gap for our development and progress.

Today we rally with one voice, to give thanks to God and seek His blessings on behalf of our Virgin Islands. The Bible tells us that when two on the earth agree about anything we ask for, it will be done for us by our Father in heaven.

We, the Government of the Virgin Islands, therefore welcome the opportunity to partner with the BVI Interdenominational Day of Prayer Committee, church leaders and the community to intercede on behalf of the Territory and its people.

One of the highlights of this annual event is the all-day live call-in prayer request programmes on local radio stations.

As you call in, I encourage you to remember to pray for the Government, especially those in Cabinet, the Speaker and the House of Assembly, as well as national security.

Pray that God will continue to grant us wisdom to lead in accordance with His will.

Remember also to pray for our economy and our various Government bodies.

My personal prayer is that God will continue to bless the people of the Virgin Islands with health and prosperity.

I pray that the people of the Territory will continue to live in unity.

May the love and favor of God continue to rest upon our beautiful Virgin Islands.
