The importance of Safety at Work will be highlighted during the month of April as the Public Information and Awareness sub-committee of the National Disaster Management Council launches its ‘Workplace Safety” campaign.
The campaign will also include “The Importance of Disaster Plans,” “What to do in the event of an Emergency” and “The Use of Safety Equipment”.
The campaign will run throughout this month and will culminate with the Territory’s participation in the International Labour Organisation World Day for Health and Safety at Work on April 28.
Ms. Sylvia George, Health and Safety Coordinator with the Department of Human Resources said the importance of being safe at work cannot be stressed enough. She stated that Part IX of the Labour Code which focuses on Health, Safety and Welfare, states that both employers and employees have a role to play in ensuring working conditions are safe and healthy.
Mrs George also encouraged persons to be aware of the steps to be safe using the acronyom SAFE - Spot the Hazards, Assess the Risks, Find a Safer Way, Everyday.
Throughout the month, messages focused on “Safety at Work” will be aired on Radio Station ZBVI 780 AM and on other media houses. Additionally, Ms. George will be a guest on JTV’s Spotlight Programme on April 14 and the Department of Information and Public Relations’ Radio Report.
The National Disaster Management Council (NDMC) is chaired by His Excellency the Governor and coordinates disaster preparedness and response readiness activities.
