Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Dr. Natalio Wheatley is urging individuals and organisations to register for the Standard Integrated Government Tax Administration System (SIGTAS 3.0).

Premier Wheatley stated that SIGTAS 3.0 is a software solution that helps governments manage its tax revenue and compliance. He said the initiative is “a major milestone for our tax administration system”, and reiterated the importance of registering.

“I would like to take this opportunity to make a public appeal to all taxpayers (individuals and businesses) to register, as new unique Tax Identifier Numbers (TIN) are now being assigned and is necessary for the full launching of this system,” the Premier urged.

The system is projected to go live within the third quarter of 2023, and will comprise of several benefits to taxpayers including improved user- friendly interface and navigation, enhanced security and data protection, expanded functionality and flexibility, and increased automation and integration. These components are critical to the enhancement of the tax system in the Virgin Islands.

The initiative commenced in October 2021 as a collaborative effort between the Inland Revenue Department and the Department of Information Technology. Premier Wheatley extended gratitude to the project team, which has made significant progress towards launching this new system.

The Central Government has also deployed a team of experts at the Inland Revenue department to assist taxpayers with the registration process. This is in keeping with its commitment to upgrade the tax system in the Virgin Islands.

SIGTAS 3.0 is presently utilised by over 30 countries around the world, including the Virgin Islands. The software solution is also the latest version of the tax administration system, which offers several new features and enhancements that will benefit both the tax authorities and the taxpayers.

Taxpayers are required to provide a valid passport or driver’s licence, along with their Social Security card, and an email address to register. Online registration is also available at http://www.eregisterfortax.gov.vg.
