Residents in the Virgin Islands will learn how they can benefit from Government’s Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Loan (RRL) programme and how they will be impacted by the projects to be undertaken.

Director of Projects Dr. Drexel Glasgow said this will be done through an upcoming Public Education and Awareness Showcase The showcase he said is Government’s commitment to engaging with the public who will be impacted by the loan programme and how they will benefit.

Dr. Glasgow said, “Most persons are aware that the Government negotiated a 65.2. Million dollar loan with the Caribbean Development Bank to rebuild the social and economic infrastructure in the Territory post Hurricane Irma, but, the project phases, the implementing agencies, the timeline and the benefits for residents and contractors are unclear with most residents.”

Dr. Glasgow added, “This showcase will be used to bridge the gap in knowledge as it relates to how the loans will provide early warning systems and emergency communications, provide sustainable support to persons with psychosocial needs and help build community resilience among parents, teachers, students, youth and other vulnerable groups.”

The projects will include the rebuilding of infrastructure in various sectors including Education, Water and Sewerage, Roads, Ports, Police Service and Government Services.

The first meeting will be held for the community of Road Town at the Althea Scatliffe Primary School on Tuesday, January 29 at 6:00 p.m.

The second meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 31 at the End End/Long Look community centre at 6:00 p.m. while the third and final meeting of the first phase will be held on Tuesday, February 5 at the Cane Garden Bay Baptist Church at 6:00 p.m.
