Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Andrew A. Fahie said: “During the 2020 Budget Address delivered on 19 November 2019 under the theme: Transformation for Resilience and Sustainability, your Government stated clearly that one of its vision is to have the BVI 60% renewable energy by 2030.
He added, “The Premier's Office along with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture, BVI Electricity Corporation and the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) developed a programme to train our people and the Caribbean Region for the new opportunities that will be available in this new industry.“
The programme was launched at HLSCC earlier this year, but today, Unite BVI provided a grant of over $300K to HLSCC to train a cohort of certified solar technicians to build the local capacity and expertise in this area.
The Premier said, “Scholarships are available for BVIslanders and Belongers. Together we will always achieve more.”
