In alignment with our mandate, the Immigration Department prides itself with serving the people of the Virgin Islands with dignity and respect, while upholding our reputation to effectively secure the Territory’s borders by guarding against illegal migration, smuggling, and human trafficking.

During a recent routine patrol by the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force, three Dominican Republic males were apprehended on suspicion of attempting to smuggle from the Territory.

The Department of Immigration was immediately informed of the matter. The men were arrested by the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force and subsequently transferred to the Immigration detention facility while further investigations were carried out.

As a result of sensitive internal investigations undertaken by the Immigration Department, Officer Naima Grante was taken into custody by the police officers, where she was then arrested and charged with three counts of breach of trust.

The Department is committed to upholding the law and any identified wrong doings by officers will be addressed.

We also wish to acknowledge the technical support and assistance that was extended by His Majesty’s Customs and the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force regarding this matter.

We remain committed to enhancing internal monitoring processes through utilising advanced technological software, employing relevant investigative strategies, and maintaining strong relationships with our regional partners.
