Statement

Office of the Governor
Release Date:
Wednesday, 28 August 2019 - 7:32am

Good morning residents and visitors.

As many are aware last night we moved to a Tropical Storm warning for Tropical Storm Dorian.  Those who have been monitoring Tropical Storm Dorian will know by now that overnight the system shifted slightly north bringing some of inter intense outer bands of rain closer to us.

On reviewing the radar data from the latest update the DDM has indicated that rain bands could start affecting us at the beginning of the work day.  There will be some ease through out the morning and by midday we can see more rain. The centre of the storm will pass about 60 miles south of our islands at around 2:00 or 3:00 p.m.

With all this in mind and considering the current state of our environment, I have consulted the Premier and activated the NEOC. I have agreed with the Deputy Governor that Government Offices will close today. If it is safe to do so, however we ask heads of departments to make an early check on offices and vehicles to ensure that they are secure.

Businesses and residence should follow that same approach by securing premises early and everyone else should stay off the roads. Airports may close this morning based on the latest information.  Please continue to monitor updates from DDM.  Stay safe.
