The Virgin Islands Cultural Food Fair, Book and Art Expo will be held this Friday as part of this year’s Culture and Tourism Month of activities.

The Ministry of Tourism, Culture & Sustainable Development, through The Department of Culture will host the much-anticipated event which showcases the diverse and vibrant cultural heritage of the Virgin Islands.  

Deputy Director of Culture Ms. Anne Lennard, said the event is now a staple of Culture and Tourism Month. “This year’s theme, 'Telling Our Story Through Tourism: Sharing Virgin Islands Legacies,' invites us to reflect on the richness of the Territory’s heritage and the ways in which they can share it with the world,” she said.

Ms. Lennard added, “It also brings home the fact that the marrying of culture and tourism plays a key role in our visitors’ experience in addition to enhancing the knowledge of our communities through this partnership.”

The Food Fair, Book and Art Expo will start at 10:00 a.m. and conclude at 4:00 p.m., Guests will be treated to the lively rhythms of Zion Sounds and the 4 Strong Fungi Bands. Local visual artists will display their works and offer attendees the chance to explore the creativity that thrives within the community.

The event will also feature story telling along with the sale of an array of traditional Virgin Islands foods, juices, candies, and other island delicacies, reflecting the rich culinary traditions of the Territory. Handmade crafts, including straw hats, jewellery, mats, and rugs made by local artisans will also be on sale including art pieces by legendary VI artists: Frederick Blackett and Vincent “Bing” Malone.

In addition, the much-anticipated Local Tart Competition, hosted by Caribbean Insurers Ltd., will be a highlight of the day. Visitors can sample and vote for their favourite tart, celebrating the Territory’s rich baking heritage. Local authors will also share their books and stories, offering a deeper connection to the history and culture of the Virgin Islands.

The event promises to be a celebration of the Virgin Islands’ cultural spirit. The Department of Culture encourages everyone to join in the festivities and immerse themselves in the traditions that define the Territory.
