The Department of Waste Management now has the ability to store used oil at a newly opened Waste Oil Facility in Sea Cow’s Bay.

The facility became operational on Friday April 5 and can now store 20,000 gallons of used oil.

Deputy Director, Mr. Anslem Myers said that the department has retained the services of a company who will be responsible for managing the facility and collecting used oil from around the public garbage bins throughout the Territory.

Residents are asked to place their used or waste oil around the public bins to be collected and transported to the facility. Persons can also take small quantities directly to the site Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. beginning Monday April 8.

Mr. Myers said, “We will be accepting small quantities of waste oil from households, small commercial businesses, hotels, restaurants and government organisations.”

He added that oil products in large quantities or from large commercial businesses such as charter or fuel companies is strictly prohibited.

The Department of Waste Management is committed to ensuring that the natural beauty of the Territory is enhanced by utilising state of the art waste management technology to ensure timely collection disposal and where possible the recycling of waste.
