In continuing on its mandate to enhance the infrastructure of the Virgin Islands, the Ministry of Communications and Works is undertaking several road improvement works including expansions on water and sewage mains.

Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Communications and Works, Mr. Anthony McMaster said, “The Ministry of Communications and Works is committed to the infrastructural growth of this Territory.”

Mr. McMaster also said, “Works will continue on the National Sewerage Project in East End from next week. Saw cutting of the road will begin this week in preparation for the installation of the pipes.”

This phase of the project will commence works on the force main from Brandywine Bay to Parham Town and is being managed by Autland Heavy Equipment Limited.

Works to improve the road and water mains in Spring Ghut have begun. The water expansion project will see the installation of 2,000 feet of 6-inch pipes and 450 feet of 4-inch pipes to service the area. This project is expected to last for six weeks. Road works also happening in the area include constructing drains and a retaining wall plus road paving. These works are also expected to last for six weeks.

Mr. McMaster also noted that works on the Sea Cows Bay road will continue and stated there will be a nightly road closures from the Ebenezer Thomas Primary School to Manuel Reef in Sea Cows Bay from 9:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. starting on Wednesday, October 26 to Thursday, October 27, for sub-base preparation.

Additionally, from Friday, October 28 at 10:00 a.m. until Monday, October 31, 9:00 a.m. the Sea Cows Bay road will be fully closed for road paving.

During the weekend closure in this area, motorists driving to and from the western end of Tortola are advised to take alternate routes over the hill as no ‘through traffic’ will be allowed. The recommended alternate route is the Paul P. Wattley Road into Georges Hallow near Ebenezer Thomas Primary School.

Road works to facilitate the construction of sidewalks on the Blackburn Highway near the Water and Sewerage Department to Fish Bay have commenced. Work is expected to last for six weeks and also includes the installation of manholes, a retaining wall, and 12-inch water pipes.

Other areas with on-going road works include Brewers Bay, Windy Hill and Lee Road in Virgin Gorda. To view the location and status of these projects visit bvi.gov.vg/roadworks.
