Premises proposed for new food establishment are inspected to ensure that the hygienic linear flow of food and infrastructure within the establishment are acceptable.

Process

Step 1:  Proprietors can review the Minimum Standards for Food Establishments guidelines and visit or email the Division with the completed Application for Registration/Licencing of a Food Establishment Form.

Step 2:  The Environmental Health Officer schedules a time with the proprietor to visit the establishment to conduct an inspection.

Step 3:  The Environmental Health Officer prepares an inspection report and this will be issued to the proprietor within 24 - 48 hours of the inspection.

Step 4:  If the establishment passes the inspection, they are given a letter for submission to the Department of Trade and Consumer Affairs for acquisition of a trade licence (if they were not already issued a trade licence).  If there are conditions to be met, the proprietor will not be issued a trade licence until they have met the conditions stipulated in the letter.

Step 5:  Proprietor visits the Division to sign for and collect their food establishment licence.  They are advised that it is required that they display the licence in a conspicuous area visible to the patrons.
