Exemption Processing for Work Permit holders based on

i. Exemption by Marriage;
ii. Exemption by Residing in the Virgin Islands consecutively for fifteen (15) years or more; and
iii. Exemption by Minister’s Discretion.

 

Process

Step 1: Customer submits the application form  along with supporting documents to the Ministry of Natural Resources, Labour and Immigration;

Step 2:  A response from the Ministry will be sent to the customer acknowledging receipt of application;

Step 3:  Upon approval of the application, the customer will be notified  by  a news release  that applications for work permit exemptions  submitted during a specific period are available  and asked to contact the Ministry. Successful applicants will be invited to come into the Ministry;

Step 4: Customer pays the applicable fees due and a Government receipt is issued;

Step 5: Payment is immediately reflected on account and the customer can collect their documentation.  They will also be informed of the next steps required; which includes presenting the approval letter and Government issued receipt to the Labour Department so that an exemption card can be issued, and visiting the Immigration Department to have their passport stamped.

  •   1 Passport Sized Photo
  •   One (1) original police certificate (local only)
  •   Copy of your Passport Biography Page 
  •   Letter of Proof of Entry and Consecutive Residence in the BVI (from BVI Immigration Department only)
  •   Copy of Work Permit Card (if applicable)
  •   Certificate of Earning from the Department of Inland Revenue 
  •   Certificate of Earning from Social Security 
  •   Job letter
Exemption by Marriage Applicants
  •   Original or certified copy of Marriage Certificate
  •   Evidence that your spouse is a BVIslander/Belonger (i.e. copy of Biography page and Governor’s Seal in passport; copy of Virgin Islands Belonger’s Card; or copy of Naturalization Certificate (Note: Belonger’s Card or Naturalization Certificate is to be accompanied by a local photo ID) ​
