Residents of the Virgin Islands are invited to the opening ceremony to observe World Food Day on Saturday, October 16 at 9:00 a.m. at the Sir Olva Georges’ Plaza in Road Town.

Today I rise to update this Honourable House on the Ministry’s ongoing work to support the agriculture and fisheries sectors. 

“Restore, Increase, Sustain and Educate”, abbreviated as “RISE”, was the theme of a successful Farmers and Fishers’ Week 2021. 

The public is notified that the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries has released an e-Magazine with articles about topics within the agricultural and fisheries sectors.

You would recall that shortly after the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 as a global pandemic in March 2020, we in the BVI were presented with a grim projection – based on the scientific data - that unless decisive preventative steps were taken, the Territory was looking at getting 3,700 coronavirus cases in our small population.

Ms. Lenia Smith of Anegada took home the prize for best fish soup in the highly anticipated Farmers and Fishers week 2021 Fish Soup Competition. 

The Fort Garden Centre and Plant Wise VI have contributed to the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries’ School Garden Initiative.

The public is invited to tune in to the Farmers and Fishers’ Week Dessert Competition between the Territory’s Secondary School Students being held today, Friday, April 30^th, at noon at the Agricultural grounds in Paraquita Bay. 

The public is invited to a grand Farmers’ and Fishers’ Exhibition and Market day on the grounds of the Department of Agriculture at Paraquita Bay on Saturday, May 1 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture, Dr. the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley, has emphasised that Famers and Fishers’ Week 2021 will be centred around honouring local fishers and farmers.
