The BVI Asian Trade Mission, led by Premier and Minister of Finance, Dr. the Honourable D. Orlando Smith, OBE has resulted in a pledge for strategic cooperation between the Government of the Virgin Islands and the Administration Commission of the Tianjin Binhai New Area Central Business District (CBD).

It is a pleasure to be here in this magnificent city which boasts the best of China and exemplifies the ambitions of China’s go global strategy. 

Good morning.  This is truly a historic moment for the BVI, poised as we are to sign this Strategic Cooperation Agreement between the Administrative Commission of the Tianjin Binhai New Area CBD and the Government of the BVI.

During the second day of the BVI Asian Trade Mission’s stop in Beijing, Premier and Minister of Finance, Dr. the Honourable D. Orlando Smith, OBE and his delegation met with Vice Chairman Li Shihong and other senior members of the marketing and international cooperation departments of the China National Tourism Association (CNTA) to familiarise the organisation with the British Virgin Islands (BVI) as a tourism destination.

The Beijing chapter of the BVI Trade Mission began today, October 19.

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen.

Before I begin my remarks I want to welcome you all here today. This is my fifth visit to Hong Kong.  Between 2004 when I first visited and now our relationship has reached a new dimension.  I would like to especially commend Russell Harrigan for bringing together the Hong Kong business community in this fashion to facilitate discussion of critical developments in the BVI of relevance to industry here.  Each time I come I am reminded of the camaraderie that exists between many of you and those of us in the BVI and of the friends we have made here over the years.  

Over 100 guests attended the BVI Cocktail Reception hosted by BVI House Asia at the sky lobby of Central Plaza held on October 17. 

The Asia Pacific Region remains a fundamental market for the British Virgin Islands as Premier and Minister of Finance, Dr. the Honourable D. Orlando Smith, OBE concludes the first day of meetings during the BVI Asian Trade Mission.
