Government of the VI Invites Tenders for Collection of Solid Waste
The Government of the British Virgin Islands invites tenders for the collection of solid waste across six designated zones in Tortola, covering various communities such as Prospect Reef, Road Reef, Huntum’s Ghut, Baugher’s Bay, Long Look, and Hope Hill. Interested tenderers must submit a completed Form of Tender along with proof of good standing regarding taxes, social security, national health insurance, company registration, and a valid 2025 Trade License or Certificate of Good Standing, depending on their business type. Tender documents can be requested via email, and a virtual pre-tender meeting will be held on July 9, 2025. Bids, including one original and three copies plus a flash drive, must be submitted in sealed envelopes by 10:00 a.m. on July 29, 2025, at the Ministry of Finance’s Procurement Unit. Tenders will be publicly opened at 11:00 a.m. that day, with bidders invited to attend virtually. The Government reserves the right to accept or reject any tender and will not cover tender-related costs.

Postal Leaders Discuss Modernising Services in the Region
A three-day conference was held in the Virgin Islands from March 25 to 27 to discuss the future of postal services, focusing on digital transformation and the integration of technologies like artificial intelligence. Hosted by the Caribbean Postal Union (CPU), Universal Postal Union (UPU), and the BVI Postal Services, the event was themed "Adapting to the Future: Enhancing Operational Efficiency and Innovation through Leadership in Postal Services." Premier Dr. Natalio D. Wheatley delivered the Keynote Address, emphasizing the importance of evolving postal services to meet the demands of the digital age, especially in light of the e-commerce boom. He highlighted the challenges faced by small island states like the BVI, including infrastructure limitations and the need for sustainable solutions. The conference brought together 29 postal leaders from across the region to discuss various issues, including embracing e-commerce, improving customer experience, and integrating emerging technologies like AI and blockchain.

Orlandette Crabbe Confirmed As Chief Education Officer
Mrs. Orlandette Crabbe has been confirmed as the Chief Education Officer in the Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs, and Sports, effective June 2024. She has a wealth of experience in education, having worked as a teacher, Assistant Principal, Principal, and adjunct lecturer. Mrs. Crabbe will oversee the administration of the Department of Education, ensuring the maintenance and development of educational standards in the Virgin Islands. Her appointment was praised by Permanent Secretary Dr. Marcia Potter, highlighting her significant contributions to education in the Territory.

Henry Prince Appointed Virgin Gorda’s District Officer
Mr. Henry Prince has been appointed District Officer for Virgin Gorda, effective February 3, 2025. In this role, he will coordinate government activities, manage official inquiries, and oversee the Government Administration Building. With over 20 years of experience, including roles at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College and Bitter End Yacht Club, Mr. Prince holds degrees in Hospitality and Tourism Management, Strategic Leadership, and University Teaching and Leadership. He expressed his commitment to maintaining excellence in public service and looks forward to working with the community. Mr. Prince will collaborate with other District Officers from the Sister Islands Programme.

The book offers a thorough examination of fairness, its evolving dynamics, and its impact on both employers and employees. It is based on years of research and aims to spark meaningful dialogue on creating fairer work environments. The Department of Culture will host the book launch on February 13 at Village Cay Marina at 5:15 p.m., where attendees can engage with the author and discuss the book's themes. The event is part of the department’s ongoing effort to promote local literary talent.

Land Surveyor’s Board Seeks Members
The Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change is seeking qualified applicants to fill a vacancy on the Land Surveyors Board. This statutory body regulates land surveyors in the Virgin Islands and is responsible for licensing, registration, and oversight. Applicants must be permanent residents—preferably Belongers—and licensed, practicing surveyors with at least four years of experience. Key skills include proficiency in surveying technologies, analytical thinking, and a commitment to land management. Upper Main Street to be Converted to a Two-Way Street June 1st
The Ministry of Communications and Works will implement a two-way traffic configuration along Upper Main Street in Road Town starting June 1, 2025. This change aims to ease congestion, improve traffic flow, and enhance safety for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians. The project also includes road repairs, resurfacing, and drainage upgrades. Local businesses have been informed of parking restrictions along the corridor. Motorists are urged to be cautious as new signage is put in place, and traffic officers will assist during the transition.

Raymond B. Grant Appointed Deputy Superintendent of Prisons
Mr. Raymond B. Grant has been appointed Deputy Superintendent of Prison at His Majesty’s Prison in the Virgin Islands. With 20 years of experience in the Jamaica Defence Force and previous service as Deputy Superintendent at His Majesty’s Prison in Turks and Caicos, Mr. Grant brings extensive leadership and correctional expertise. Permanent Secretary Tasha Bertie highlighted his role in enhancing prison operations, rehabilitation programs, and maintaining security. Mr. Grant holds qualifications in Human Resource Management, Leadership, Supervisory Management, and Restorative Justice.
