Press Release
Organisation:
The Department of Culture has announced its support of a new book to be launched here on 30th April: “Healing the Caribbean: A Comprehensive Guide to Understanding and Preventing Noncommunicable Diseases.”
Authored by Dr Magdalina Jean-Louis, a Registered Nurse, Midwife, and Health Educator, this publication comes at a critical juncture as the Caribbean continues to face a rising tide of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs).
Deputy Director of Culture, Ms Anne Lennard, said this is an essential resource which aims to educate individuals, communities, healthcare professionals, and policymakers on effective strategies to reduce the NCD burden across the region and globally. “The Department congratulates Nurse Jean Louis on the launch of her book which can benefit the local community.”
Dr Jean-Louis’ work bridges the gap between scientific research and practical, everyday application. The book emphasises lifestyle changes through several key pillars:
- The Laws of Health: Rooted in holistic wellness principles.
- Root Cause Analysis: Practical solutions to systemic health issues.
- Caribbean Voices: Real-life success stories that resonate with the regional experience.
- Nutritional Empowerment: Includes vegan recipes designed to make healthy eating accessible and culturally relevant.
The Department of Culture invites the public to attend the official book launch on Thursday 30th April at 4:45 p.m. at the New Mello Moods, Skelton Bay Lot, Fish Bay and engage in the conversation regarding the Territory's health and heritage.
“Healing the Caribbean” is available in both print and digital formats. Following the launch, the book can be purchased through major retailers including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, iTunes, and Walmart and on www.caribbeanbooks.com
