The Ministry of Education and Culture is congratulating the Territory’s secondary students for their success in the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examination.

The 2015 CXC CSEC results have been released by the Caribbean Examinations Council, with 281 students from the three public and two private secondary schools in the Virgin Islands having written the examinations.

Minister for Education and Culture, Honourable Myron V. Walwyn said, “The Ministry of Education is making every effort to provide opportunities for students of the Territory of the Virgin Islands to compete with other students within the region.  Mandating that all fifth form students be exposed to writing CXC CSEC subject examinations was a great move on the part of the Ministry.  I am positive that there is more potential in our students which we still need to tap into.  Congratulations to all the successful candidates who once again have made this Territory proud.”

A comparison of the two core subjects of Mathematics and English A across the five schools showed that at the Elmore Stoutt High School the pass rate for Mathematics was 78.5% and the pass rate for English A was 75%.  At the Bregado Flax Educational Centre, the pass rate for Mathematics was 75%, while the pass rate for English A was 50%. At the Claudia Creque Educational Centre, the pass rate for Mathematics was 33.3% and the pass rate for English A was 66.7%.

At the BVI Seventh-day Adventist School, the pass rate for Mathematics was 38.2% and the pass rate for English A is 68.6%.  At the St. George’s Secondary School, the pass rate for both Mathematics and English A is 100%. 

This year, of the 281 candidates who were registered to write the examinations, across the Territory, there were two candidates who received 11 passes each; three candidates who received 10 passes each; five candidates who received nine passes each; 20 candidates who received eight passes each; 33 candidates who received seven passes each; 49 candidates who received six passes and 40 candidates who received five passes each. All the other candidates received less than five passes or were absent from a number of examinations.

The candidates who received 11 subject passes are Zahra Renee Corion who achieved with six Grade I and five Grade II passes, and Shaniece Tamara Morgan who received three Grade I, six Grade II and two Grade III passes. The candidates who received 10 subject passes are: Jahmaine Allestan Liburd who achieved four Grade I and six Grade II passes; Creightanya Brewley who achieved all Grade I passes and Tyra Marie Lewis who achieved four Grade I passes, three Grade II passes and three Grade III passes.  All candidates are former students of the Elmore Stoutt High School.
