Local Photographer, Dr. Robert “Storm” Wright will be launching two photography books which he says depict cultural slices of life.

Dr. Wright’s book, ‘Familiar Touch—Moments in Time’ (The Journey) is a collection of black-and-white photos accompanied by the author’s thoughts and quotations from well-known or anonymous writers.

The second book, ‘Sometimes the Silence Screams’ (The Legacy Edition) is a collection of photographs that focuses on pieces of everyday life in the Caribbean, ranging over multiple landscapes that include both the US and the British Virgin Islands, Cuba, and Puerto Rico.

“Many, many years ago I fell in love with photography; the love affair still lasts until this very day,” Dr. Wright said. He added, “It has been my constant, through the good times and the bad, through rejections and those moments when even the words ‘I love you’ seemed to be a lie.”

“I do shoot in color, but I love classic black-and-white photography. I believe that the absence of color makes you see truth,” Dr. Wright explained. He further added that the two works that are being launched are simply slices of life, frozen in time and presented to inspire a moment of thought.

The books will be launched on Wednesday, March 3 at Myett’s Chill Zone, Cyril B. Romney Tortola Pier Park at 6:30 p.m. in collaboration with the Department of Culture.

Director of Culture, Dr. Katherine Smith said, “The Department of Culture is absolutely thrilled to be involved in the launch of Dr. Robert 'Storm' Wright's two books of photography. We deeply appreciate the use of photography to capture the essence of cultural life, and Dr. Wright has done this wonderfully and evocatively in his two books of photography.”
