Students of the Enid Scatliffe Pre-Primary School can now enjoy a new educational engaging playground, which was officially commissioned last week.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister for Education and Culture, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education and Culture, Dr. Marcia Potter congratulated Principal Welsh for leading the charge in organising the construction of the new playground and other outdoor facilities.

“Thank you for carrying out the mandate of the Ministry of Education and Culture and for displaying the products of the National College of Educational Leadership (NCEL) training,” Dr. Potter said.

Principal Welch participated in the eight month leadership development training organized for principals in the Territory. The training was facilitated by directors from the National College for Education Leadership of Jamaica.

Dr. Potter also commended all involved in the transformation of the playground, restrooms and other areas of the school’s campus noting that she recognised the public – private partnership formed as members of the community also contributed significantly to the school’s facilities.

Principal of the Enid Scatliffe Pre-Primary School, Mrs. Valerie Charles-Welsh stated that the transformed playground was a vital part of creating a positive learning environment for the students.

Mrs Charles-Welch noted that the playground will not be the only area of focus for the school, adding that it is important to enhance the learning environment to achieve ultimate success. She noted that the new playground features a “Sight Word Café”, swings, and other equipment that enforces phonics, reading, and counting.

The Ministry of Education and Culture remains committed to providing the students of the Virgin Islands state of the art learning and recreational facilities.
