Press Release
In a groundbreaking collaboration to provide students with a comprehensive platform to explore higher education opportunities and connect with representatives from 21 colleges and universities worldwide, the Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) and the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) have joined forces to host the Annual College Fair, set to take place on Thursday, February 13, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM at the Multipurpose Sports Complex.
Chief Education Officer in the Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs and Sports, Mrs. Orlandette Crabbe, emphasized the significance of this partnership, stating, “ESHS has consistently hosted a college fair, but by joining forces with HLSCC, we are creating a more impactful opportunity for our students. This collaboration not only broadens our student’s exposure to a wider range of institutions but also strengthens the bridge between secondary education and post-secondary pathways. With HLSCC as a key partner, we are equipping students with the information, resources, and direct connections they need to make informed decisions about their futures.”
President of HLSCC, Dr. Richard Georges, also emphasised the significance of this partnership, adding, “As a proud alumnus of the then BVI High School and HLSCC from which I transferred to complete my baccalaureate, I am gladdened to see us take this step together. I therefore commend the CEO for her leadership and vision in this regard.”
This year’s College Fair is open to the public, providing an invaluable opportunity for students and community members alike to explore a wide array of higher education options. Secondary school students looking to gain insight into their college options, parents seeking guidance on how to support their child’s higher education journey, and past students considering returning to school are all encouraged to attend.
A major highlight of the fair is the chance for students to receive on-the-spot acceptance from select institutions by bringing their transcripts. Additionally, some universities will be offering scholarships to eligible attendees, making this an unmissable opportunity for those aspiring to further their education. With representatives from seventeen (17) Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Missouri Southern University, and St. George’s University in Grenada. Attendees will have access to a diverse selection of colleges and universities spanning various fields and regions.
This landmark collaboration between ESHS and HLSCC underscores a shared commitment to expanding educational opportunities and supporting students in taking the next step toward achieving their academic and professional goals.
