Officials from the Ministry of Finance are training assessors on instruments to collect information for the Institutional Assessments (IA).

An IA identifies key services by specific institutions and the efficiency of service delivery. It is one of five components of the project funded by the Caribbean Development Bank and facilitated through the Organisation of the Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).

The workshop Facilitator Economist II within the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Emery ‘Che’ Pemberton explained that the Institutional Assessment is important to get a better understanding of the current state of the Territory and creating strategies to address needs.

The two-day workshop began on December 10 and focused on exploring the importance of institutions and the services they provide in socioeconomic development; discussing rights-based approach to service delivery; and providing assessors with the knowledge of the definitions, process, data collection instruments and skills to conduct the IA.

More information on the Country Assessment of Living Conditions will be provided to the public over the coming weeks. Persons or organisations concerned about the Institutional Assessments can also call 468-2144 for more information.

The Ministry of Health and Social Development aspires to provide a caring and integrated system of health and social services that facilitates human development and quality of life in the British Virgin Islands.
