The Office of Gender Affairs will be celebrating International Women’s Day on March 8 with the hosting of an Information Fair.

Gender Affairs Coordinator Tara Sue Morgan said the event will be held at the New Peebles Hospital Veranda at 9:00 a.m. and is a great way to engage women of all ages. She said a similar successful event was held in 2018.

Ms. Morgan stated, “The goal this year will continue in that effort, which will be to continue to provide support and encouragement to the endless work that women do.”

Presentations will be geared towards empowering women on various topics and presenters will include Mrs. Sharon Flax-Brutus from BVI Tourist Board, Ms. Avaline Potter from A R Potter & Associates Ltd. and Ms. Violet Gaul from Colonial Insurance. In addition, recognition will be given to Mrs. Marlene Trotman and the late Ms. Phyllis Shirley.

The Office of Gender Affairs will work in collaboration with community partners including Family Support Network, Zonta, Financial Services Commission and CCT Limited. The entire BVI community is encouraged to attend the fair and empower women and young girls.

This year’s observance is being held under the theme: ‘Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate for change’. International Women’s Day is observed annually to recognise the contributions of women in all their diversities.
