Minister for Communications and Works, Honourable Mark Vanterpool is calling on motorists to be mindful of the high influx of tourists that are visiting the Territory and to refrain from abusing the laws of the road.

Honourable Vanterpool said it is important that motorists exercise extreme caution and ensure that pedestrians are respected when crossing the Territory’s roads. He said motorists must also be cognizant of puddles on the road following rainfall.

The Minister stated that the ministry in conjunction with the Office of the City manager is working to improve the sidewalks and the roads in the city. He said that these works are in progress and will be completed once all on-going sewerages works in the city are completed.

Minister Vanterpool added, “We hope that the traffic situation can be better in the city but it is incumbent on all of us to take our time and drive in a manner that the traffic can flow in a safe way.”

Motorists are advised to obey all road rules and to avoid parking on sidewalks in the city. This advice comes with the increasing numbers of vehicles in the Territory along with the increase in returning residents and visitors for the Christmas season.

Motorists are also asked to walk whenever possible, especially during the lunch hour and to car pool whenever necessary. They are advised to use alternative routes to limit the traffic in Road Town and pedestrians are urged to be vigilant and to look both ways before crossing the roads.

The Ministry is encouraging residents to follow these tips to enable a reduction in traffic and accidents, as it continues to improve the infrastructure in the city of Road Town.
