Local author, Mrs. Andria Flax has said that her new book titled “A Walk through the Valley” tells stories of the Virgin Islands’ golden population.

The book begins in the 1800’s and leads up to present day while traveling with “la crème de la crème” – super centenarians, centenarians, upper nonagenarians and lower nonagenarians.

Mrs. Flax said, “The literary piece celebrates the golden population that has breezed through “three score years and ten and will definitely take the reader on a nostalgic trip down memory lane.”

“If you are lucky enough to have elderly relatives around, you are truly blessed,” Ms. Flax said, adding, “While cherishing these golden gems, take time to sit with them, listen to them, and learn from them.  It is important that you also document their stories for posterity.”

Deputy Director, Ms. Anne Lennard, said the Department of Culture is honoured to partner with the local author for the upcoming release of her newest book that focuses on Virgin Islands centenarians and seniors.

“It is timely as in many countries these days much focus is placed on youths in our communities. Often times those who have been our nation builders are either overlooked or forgotten. This book is a must read and a definite keepsake," Ms. Lennard said.

The book will be launched on Tuesday, June 15 at Maria’s by the Sea at 5:00 p.m.in collaboration with the Department of Culture.

Persons can tune in to the book launch LIVE on the Government’s Facebook page @BVIGovernment.

The Department of Culture is committed to helping local authors publicise their books and is encouraging persons to contact their office at 468-4374 for further details.
