STATEMENT FROM THE NATIONAL SECURITY COUNCIL 

In light of the shooting incident on Friday, 22 nd March, 2024, the National Security Council (NSC) met today.

The Commissioner of Police took the opportunity to update the meeting on the welfare of the victim, Jeron Romney, and also the ongoing investigation.

The Commissioner of Police also updated the NSC of recent media reports of further gunshots heard in the area of Huntum’s Ghut during the evening on 23 rd and 24th March, 2024, and indicated that investigations to date have not confirmed the nature of these incidents.

The NSC undertook to remain updated on these matters and return to a fuller discussion later this week.

The NSC thanked the many persons in the community who have come forward to assist the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force with this investigation.

The NSC also encouraged all communities throughout the Territory to support the police in the current investigations, specifically anyone who had contact with Mr. Romney over the past 24 to 48 hours, by calling Crime Stoppers and the confidential and untraceable hotline 800-8477[TIPS], 800-847-8477 and 368-9339.

Meanwhile, the NSC called for calm in the Territory.

The NSC remains committed to introducing measures and any relevant legislation to bring resolution to this and all other unsolved crimes.

The National Security Council considers matters relating to internal security and any significant security developments in the Territory, including the occurrence of significant criminal activity. The NSC comprises the Governor, as Chairman and members, including the Premier, the Minister for Communication and Works, the Attorney General (ex-officio) and the Commissioner of Police (ex-officio).
