Premier and Minister of Finance, Honourable Dr. Natalio D. Wheatley has highlighted his government’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

 Premier Wheatley while delivering his 2025 Territorial Address, under the overarching theme of “Building A Sustainable Nation” detailed significant strides made in environmental protection and climate resilience, both of which align with the National Sustainable Development Plan and the Medium-Term Development Strategy.

The Premier stated, “Protecting our natural environment is of utmost importance. The Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources, and Climate Change conducted a public consultation to develop new environmental legislation, ensuring that our policies reflect the values and priorities of our community.

Noteworthy achievements included the advancement of the Blue Economy Roadmap, expansion of recycling and waste management programmes, strengthened marine conservation efforts, introduction of the Crown Lands Management Legislation, and progress on climate and environmental policy through public consultations, project implementation, and international collaborations.

Premier Wheatley reiterated that the Government of the Virgin Islands’ unwavering commitment to sustainability continues to serve as a catalyst for legislative and policy advancements, ensuring that environmental considerations remain at the forefront of national development. These efforts reflect the government’s dedication to preserving the beauty of the Virgin Islands’ natural environment for future generations.
