Several private and public schools in the Territory will benefit from financial contributions courtesy of Delta Petroleum Caribbean Limited.

Minister for Education and Culture, Honourable Myron V. Walwyn received cheques totaling $8,100 from the company’s Regional Chief Accountant, Mr. Andrew Vasconcellos.

The money will go towards assisting public schools in the Territory and the four private Schools, namely the Seventh Day Adventist Primary and Secondary school, Cedar International and Pelican Gate Primary.

Honourable Walwyn commended Delta Petroleum for its contribution.

The Minister said, “I am grateful to Delta for taking the initiative to contribute to the education system in the Territory. I have said before that the Government of the Virgin Islands cannot do it all and we rely on the business community to assist in the development of our schools and our youth.”

Delta’s representative, Mr. Vasconcellos said, “Delta Petroleum has a responsibility to give back to the Territory and as such, we recognised the importance of a well-supported education system. We will continue to support as best we can, the youth of this Territory, to ensure they have a successful future.”

Delta Petroleum has selectively given various contributions to schools in the Territory over the years. The company stepped up its contributions for the first time last year and has decided to give assistance to all public and private schools in the Territory.

The Ministry of Education and Culture has sought to have the business community invest in schools through the “Adopt-a-School” Initiative. As a result, most public schools in the Territory have been adopted by organisations and are recipients of financial support throughout the year.

The Ministry of Education and Culture is encouraging more businesses to invest in the development and education of the Virgin Islands’ youth as the Ministry continues to ‘Create a Culture of Excellence’ in the Virgin Islands.
