The public is advised of the following traffic disruptions as the Ministry of Transportation, Works and Utilities along with the Recovery and Development Agency progress with road rehabilitation projects throughout the Territory.

TRAFFIC DISTRUPTIONS

Little Dix Hill:  Works on the slope stabilisation at Little Dix Hill will commence on December 2, 2020. One lane access in the vicinity of the site works will be maintained from tomorrow, December 2, for the project’s duration which is expected to last around 6 months.

Motorists are asked to drive with extreme caution and to follow the directions of the traffic wardens and road signs erected at the Little Dix Hill – Josiah’s Bay junction and at the Hope Hill – Nottingham Estate Road junction of road works ahead.

ROAD CLOSURES

Hope Hill: Road demolition will begin on Thursday December 3 on the Hope Hill Road work site east of the catchment Hope Hill.  This will require the closure of the road during the hours of 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.  Motorists are therefore required when commuting to and from East End to use the Blackburn Highway.

Great Mountain:  On Friday December 4 and Saturday December 5 Great Mountain road will be closed to ongoing traffic from 9:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. in order to facilitate the pouring of concrete for the retaining structure.

During this time motorists will be required to use these alternate routes to enter Road Town or to access the upper Great Mountain area.

  • Traffic coming from upper Great Mountain, Brewer’s Bay and Spooner’s Estate can turn left onto the Ridge Road and head into Road Town via the exit for Johnson’s Ghut/Purcell or continue to Belle Vue and head down Fort Hill into Road Town. Alternately, motorists can access Road Town via Joe’s Hill.
  • Similarly, heading out of Road Town motorists are advised to access Upper Great Mountain and environs via Joes Hill, Purcell/Johnson’s Ghut Road or Fort Hill, Belle Vue and the Ridge Road.
  • Traffic coming from Cane Garden Bay and Carrot Bay through Windy Hill will be alerted at the Ridge Road and Joe’s Hill intersection about the Great Mountain road closure and would be diverted as necessary onto Joe’s Hill Road.

Residents living within the road closure designated area will have access to their properties. Site personnel will be on location to inform residents about road access procedures.

As the Ministry of Transportation, Works and Utilities, and the Recovery and Development Agency continue to carry out various road infrastructural works in the coming months, persons are asked to stay abreast with media outlets, social media, the radio and the Government’s YouTube and Facebook pages at username @BVIGovernment for more information.
