The British Virgin Islands joins rest of the world in the annual observance of International Human Rights Day on December 10. A ceremony was held by the Office of Gender Affairs in partnership with the Governor’s House and remarks were delivered by Acting Governor, His Excellency David D. Archer Jr; Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Social Development, Petrona Davies and Nolma Chalwell. Students from around the Territory were also present and commemorated the event through song and verse.  International Human Rights Day was declared and adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 1958 in receiving the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) which was the first global expression of rights to which all human beings are inherently entitled. It signals the end of the 16 Days of Activism Against Violence. (Photo Credit: Adrianna J. Soverall)
