It is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Ms. Gertrude Aloma Callwood, a beloved grandmother, mother, aunt, and pioneer businesswoman who made an indelible mark on the Virgin Islands, especially on the island of Jost van Dyke.
Ernesto developed into a hurricane shortly after passing the Virgin Islands, leaving behind some serious damage. While the storm may not have been gentle with us, by God’s grace, we have made it to the all-clear.
Earlier today, I chaired the disaster management operations group, which brings together all of the agencies and departments here in the Virgin Islands to help us prepare for a severe weather event.
