As you are aware, the world and the Territory continue to manage the effects of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic and the Government of the Virgin Islands has taken many measures to control, prevent and suppress the spread of the virus. As such, effective December 1, 2020, the Government implemented a protocol wherein arriving passengers to the Territory on (Day 0), are required to quarantine for four days only, and following receipt of a negative COVID-19 PCR test, persons are allowed to move freely within the Territory. Persons travelling from the United Kingdom and the Dominican Republic are required to quarantine for fourteen days.
On the 22nd December, 2020 Senior Magistrate Tamia Richards sentenced Anthony Angol. Angol was found guilty on December 14, 2020 for the two (2) offences that were before the Court. The offences were:
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions was recently made aware of a December 2, 2020 news article that inaccurately suggested that a man faced $100,000 bail and would shortly face trial in the Magistrate’s Court.
While we understand the inherent news value of the case stemming from last week’s seizure of firearms and illicit drugs, we would urge all commenters, pundits and journalists to exercise good judgment in their coverage and discussions of the case.
