Premier and Minister responsible for Climate Change, Honourable Dr. Natalio Wheatley is satisfied that his recent participation in the Conference of Parties (COP28) in Dubai will aid the Virgin Islands in navigating the impact of climate change.

Premier and Minister responsible for Climate Change, Honourable Dr. Natalio Wheatley is leading a three member delegation to the 28^th Conference of the Parties (COP28) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Dubai.

Premier Honourable Dr. Natalio Wheatley will be attending 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) from November 30 to December 6 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The water scarcity that the Valley, Virgin Gorda, has been experiencing is attributed to three main culprits: The inadequate production of water, the inadequacy of the distribution system and Sargassum Seaweed infiltration.

The Ministry of Communications and Works was advised that the Sargassum Seaweed at Handsome Bay inhibited the operation of the water production of the Desalination Plant. In turn, the distribution of water was disrupted to customers in the Valley, Virgin Gorda.

The influx of the sargassum seaweed is once again causing concern for members of the Virgin Islands community, namely those working in the tourism industry, fisherfolks and the frequent beach visitors.

The Government of the Virgin Islands is engaged in discussions for the introduction of a National Meteorological Service in the Territory.
