The Office of Gender Affairs has recognised women on the frontlines working daily during the COVID-19 pandemic in celebration of International Women’s Day.

Today is observed as International Human Rights Day, which marks when the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948.

Mr Speaker, I wish to take this moment to join with other world leaders, and the millions of other persons in countries across the globe, who are lifting up their voices to demand an end to racism in all forms, everywhere - especially against people of African heritage.

The Office of Gender Affairs is calling for peace in households as the Territory prepares to enter into a 6 day, 24-hour curfew with the resulting lockdown.

Presentations were made to 8th Grade female students at the Elmore Stoutt High School as the Office of Gender Affairs celebrated women in male dominated careers in observance of International Women’s Day.

Last Sunday was international Women’s Day. The first International Women’s Day was celebrated in 1908 when a group of 15,000 women marched on the streets of New York, demanding their rights. 

The Office of Gender Affairs will be highlighting the importance of job inclusiveness in keeping with this year’s International Women’s Day theme ‘I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women's Right’.

Legislators, public officers, community leaders and students assembled November 25 to observe International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls in the British Virgin Islands.
