The British Virgin Islands marked another historic day as it received the first shipment of 8,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to combat effects of the COVID-19 virus.

Persons requiring a COVID-19 test for travel purposes are reminded to make an appointment three days prior to the confirmed date of travel.

The BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA) has received a new automated extraction machine as it continues to enhance its laboratory arsenal to provide more efficient COVID-19 testing.

The public is notified that the BVI Health Services Authority’s electronic communication system will undergo a system upgrade tomorrow, Friday January 15.

The Government of the Virgin Islands will be collaborating with several agencies in supporting a national programme to make the AstraZeneca vaccine available to residents on a voluntary basis.

Senior Medical Officer Dr. Shaun Ramroop has said that according to statistics from the National Health Insurance, there are between 5,000 and 10,000 people being treated locally for hypertension which is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease

The public is notified of the BVI Health Services Authority’s revised hours of operation during the new curfew period from September 24 to October 1.
