The public is notified that in an effort to more effectively serve customers, the Labour Department (Tortola branch) is requesting that persons utilise the following telephone numbers to access the specific units within the department.
Immigration and Labour officials have updated Premier and Minister of Finance, Dr. the Honourable D. Orlando Smith, OBE on strategies to reform and strengthen the labour and immigration processes in the Territory and the short-term solutions being implemented to jump-start the changes.
The Labour Department is informing the public that commencing November 19, new work permit employees will be required to complete a mandatory orientation prior to issuance of the work permit card.
A mandatory orientation session for prospective new work permit employees will be put into effect from November 19. The session must be completed by the employee before work permit cards are issued.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Natural Resources and Labour, Dr. the Honourable Kedrick D. Pickering has announced that there was a recommendation for an increase in the Territory’s minimum wage.
Madame Speaker, under the Minimum Wage Order made on November 6, 1979, the minimum wage payable for employment in the Territory was set at $10 per day and on 1st June, 1994 it moved to $3.00 per hour.

A two member team from the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Commission and the Labour Department in St. Vincent and the Grenadines is in the Territory on a Technical Assistance Mission to install the Labour Market Information System (LMIS) and server.
Chairman of the Minimum Wage Advisory Committee, Mr. Simon Potter handed over the official document of the Territory’s Minimum Wage Report to Deputy Premier and Minister for Natural Resources and Labour, Dr. the Honourable Kedrick Pickering on Friday, July, 24, following the completion of its six month mandate.
