The Environmental Health Division delivers a host of environmental health services through five existing programmes:
- Food Hygiene
- Water Quality and Institutional Hygiene
- Vector Control
- Wastewater and General Environmental Sanitation
- Port Health
The activities of the specific programmes are carried out by trained Environmental Health Officers, who are assigned to the Public Health District and, in some cases, to special duties under a programme. The Vector Control Unit is staffed with eight Vector Control Officers, who visit all premises around the territory to conduct surveillance for mosquito breeding.
Mission
The Environmental Health Division is in the business of ensuring that all aspects of the environment with the potential to negatively impact health are managed efficiently to enable all persons in the Virgin Islands to attain and maintain optimal health and social well-being.
Vision
To exhibit a level of professionalism in the field of environmental health that exemplifies service above self and a model of best practices that reflect practitioners of the 21st Century.
