As we are in the peak of the Atlantic Hurricane Season and continue to observe and experience tropical wave activity, members of the public are encouraged to store drinking water and water for sanitation.
The National Emergency Operations Centre is advising the BVI community that the Acting Governor, Mrs. Rosalie Adams, in consultation with the Director of the Department of Disaster Management has deactivated the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC).
My fellow Virgin Islanders and residents of this Territory: This morning, I had the opportunity to visit different areas in Tortola as we, as a Territory, continue our recovery efforts.
My fellow Virgin Islanders, residents and visitors, as you are all aware, on Wednesday July 12 into the early hours of Thursday, July 13, the Territory was impacted by a strong tropical wave which resulted in heavy rainfall, flooding of some roadways and landslides along some slopes.
Members of the public have been given clearance to proceed on the roadways, following the impact of a tropical wave enhanced by an upper level trough which caused landslide and rock falls in some areas.
The Department of Disaster Management (DDM) is inviting contributions for the 2017 edition of its Disaster Digest magazine on the theme ‘A SMART Journey—The BVI’s steps to developing SMART Communities’.
