Tropical Storm Philippe is now gradually moving away from our area. Rainfall continues this morning and is expected to do so throughout the day as Philippe moves away from our area. Rainfall amounts of 3-4 inches were recorded in parts of the Virgin Islands last night.

The public is notified that due to the continued effects of Tropical Storm Phillipe, all Government offices are closed today, October 4, 2023.

The public is advised that the Virgin Islands has been placed under a flash flood warning.

I would like to reassure you that the Governor and I have been watching Tropical Storm Philippe carefully in recent days, and that the Government has been putting measures in place to prepare for the possibility of impacts on our shores.

I have been closely monitoring the development of Tropical Storm Philippe, and I have been briefed regularly by the team at the Department of Disaster Management (DDM).

The Virgin Islands will join ‘ShakeOut’, a global practise session to improve earthquake safety, on October 19.

The Department of Disaster Management (DDM) is encouraging Virgin Islands residents and visitors to download and become familiar with the 2023 Emergency Shelter list, which is available at https://www.bviddm.com/download/2023-land-based-emergency-shelter-list/.

This list is published in accordance with Part V, Section 13 of the Disaster Management Act (2003).

Virgin Islands residents and visitors can get real-time mobile alerts about storms, earthquakes and other hazards from the Department of Disaster Management’s new emergency alerting app.

Government agencies and key partners pledged to continue to work in close partnership to ensure that the Virgin Islands is as prepared as possible for the hurricane season during the annual meeting of the National Disaster Management Council (NDMC) held June 22.
