REMARKS – 2015 EDUCATION WEEK OPENING CEREMONY

The Ministry of Education and Culture is inviting the public to support and participate in this year’s education week activities from March 8- 13 to be held under the theme: “Education through Culture: A Virgin Islands Experience.”

The activities scheduled for the week are as follows:

Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC®), the regional examining body, is seeking a talented professional to join its team in the capacity of: 

Assistant Registrar (Business Development Officer), Corporate Services 

The Territory’s first Chief Minister, the late Honourable H. Lavity Stoutt, was credited as being an exceptional leader and architect of some of the Territory’s most significant projects, at celebrations to mark the 20^th year since his passing.

St Mary’s School and Cedar International School are the 2015 Spelling Bee Champions. 

This followed very competitive and intense rounds of the Spelling Bee Finals for the Primary and Secondary schools in the Territory.

Minister for Education and Culture Honourable Myron V. Walwyn is informing the community of Virgin Gorda that he will hold office hours on Virgin Gorda

The activities scheduled for the week are as follows:

The Government of the Virgin Islands in collaboration with the H. Lavity Stoutt Commemorative Committee is inviting the public to Honourable H. Lavity Stoutt’s 20th Memorial Celebrations under the theme Honourable H. Lavity Stoutt: A National Builder.

Several students from primary schools throughout the Territory have received copies of a book titled, ‘This Land: A trust from God’, that focuses on the environment and tackles vital areas of the Virgin Islands value system and culture.

The public is invited to join the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Territory’s secondary schools as they host the 2014-2015 Inter-Secondary Schools Debate Finals.

The debate is scheduled for Wednesday, March 11 at. 7:00 p.m. at the Sir Rupert Briercliffe Hall. The debate will take place between the Bregado Flax Education Centre Secondary Division and the Elmore Stoutt High School on the topic, “The changing global landscape will negatively impact Financial Services in the Virgin Islands.”
