We are happy to report that following the approval of the National Security Council, the remaining 10 inmates have returned safely to the Territory, today September 6, to continue serving their sentences at Her Majesty’s Prison Balsam Ghut following their temporary relocation to St. Lucia due to damage sustained to the prison facility caused by the passage of Hurricane Irma in 2017.

Madam Speaker in 2013 I issued a mandate for rehabilitation to become the core of activities at Her Majesty’s Prison as we seek to reduce repeat offending as well as prepare inmates to be in a position to reintegrate into the community.
